MBCT Course information
The 8-week MBCT (Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy) course involves practising various meditations in addition to some CBT exercises and gentle movement. This course is approved by NICE (National Institute of Clinical Excellence) as an effective treatment for prevention of low mood relapse, and is also helpful for dealing with stress, insomnia, chronic pain, PTSD, trauma and anxiety.
The course is run over 8 consecutive weeks, with an additional introductory session held before Week 1 to ascertain that it is the right course at the right time for you to be on. There is also an additional day retreat at around Week 6 of the course to help deepen the practice. Each session last 2 hours, and you would be required to do apprximately 30-40 minutes of home practice each day.
It is very important that if you are attending because of low mood or depression that we discuss this prior to signing up for the course. The course is designed to help prevent relapse, so it is best to attend when you feel emotionally stable so you are able to do the meditations and be in stillness. Also, if you have recently had a bereavement or a life-change such a moving house, getting divorced or changing jobs, then again please do let me know about it. All information is confidential.
Please note that the course is not group therapy and participants do not disclose their personal situations in the group. You share you relfections and learning around the practices and home practice only.
Please feel free to contact me to talk to me about any of the above.
