Mindfulness for Nurturing Parents

Upcoming:

Please contact me if you are interested in a group or one to one course.

Length of course: 8 weeks

Session length: 1 hour 15 mins

Format: Online using Zoom or face to face.

Who is it for? Any parent or carer; foster and adoptive parents/carers; parents/carers of children with additional needs. No experience of mindfulness is needed.

Course intentions:  To give you the opportunity to nurture your own well-being; to cultivate resilience to stress; to fully enjoy everyday moments; connect and share with others; find moments of calm, perhaps.

What does it involve?

Each week has a different theme, such as 'understanding stress', 'how to work with stress'or 'mindful communication.'  We practice guided meditations and mindful activities to explore the themes, which is done in pairs/small groups and the whole group. It is a very safe space: any input in discussions is invitational and these centre around feedback on the practices rather than talking about home situations. You only share what you feel comfortable with.

"This has been of great benefit to me and people at home. I see things with a clearer attitude now."

Home Practice: this is highly encouraged and you will be supported with handouts and access to audio guided meditations for each week.  This is so you can try out the practices and see how they might benefit you in your own life.  Research suggests that the more practice you do, the more beneficial it will be for you not only in terms of minimising the stress response in the body but sustaining the practices beyond the course.

Course background:  This lovely course was created by Eluned Gold at the Centre for Mindfulness Research and Practice, Bangor University to teach mindfulness skills to foster and adoptive parents and it was extensively taught at Barnados.  It can be included in parent-carers and foster-parents programmes and taught in children centres, family centres and schools.

Cost (includes free intro session, some handouts, support during the course): TBC
